Daily Wisdom 280: Proverbs 13:5

Proverbs 13:5 (NKJV) — 5 A righteous man hates lying, but a wicked man is loathsome and comes to shame.

Hating sin. Righteous persons hate sin. (See Proverbs 8:13.) They do not hate sinners, but they hate the sin that destroys sinners. When people do not hate sin it is because they do not focus their attention on the results of sin; they look only at the temporary pleasures. (See Hebrews 11:25.)

Those who are righteous must hate dishonesty in every form. Since Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44), deception finds its roots in him. Much can be discerned about a person’s character by that person’s attitude toward dishonesty, even in others. A wicked person thinks nothing of lying, and this attitude makes that person loathsome. Eventually, a wicked person will be brought to shame by dishonesty.
