Proverbs 4:4–5 (NKJV) — 4 He also taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live. 5 Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.

Evidently David taught Solomon personally. He made certain he fulfilled his responsibility to instruct his son in wisdom. The curriculum David used to instruct his son was simple: wisdom and understanding. He did not explore humanistic theories or situation ethics. He taught him the truth, as resident in God Himself. Without wisdom and understanding, “education” is dangerous.
